In today's world, where sustainability and cost savings are more important than ever, organizations are increasingly choosing refurbished products over new products. There are several terms for these products. Two of the most common terms are "refurbished" and "remanufactured. Although these terms are sometimes used interchangeably, there are important differences between the two. IT Lifecycle specialist Arjan van den Oever explains.
If you're looking for a way to cut costs when buying laptops or phones for your business or organization, you've probably seen the terms "refurbished" and "remanufactured." Both terms refer to products that have been used before and remanufactured. Yet there are some major differences.
What is a remanufactured laptop?
A remanufactured laptop is a used laptop that has been brought back to the manufacturer or a reputable third-party (repair) party for a complete and thorough overhaul so that it is completely up to date and ready for its next life. The remanufacturing process is very thorough and involves disassembling the laptop and testing and repairing or replacing all parts to ensure that the laptop functions like new again. After completing this process, the laptop is like new and can be sold as a remanufactured product.
Whatis a refurbished laptop?
A refurbished laptop is also a used laptop that has been returned to the manufacturer or a third (repair) party to be refurbished. However, unlike remanufacturing, refurbishing does not always include disassembling the laptop and replacing all the parts. Instead, refurbishing means cleaning and repairing the laptop and only the defective parts are replaced. Thus, a refurbished laptop is simply a common and modern term for a used laptop that has received a thorough makeover. Refurbished laptops can therefore come in varying degrees of quality, depending on how extensive the refurbishment process is. For businesses, this is far from convenient; you are (preferably) looking for a large batch of similar quality.
Why remanufactured laptops for businesses are better than refurbished laptops
There are several reasons why remanufactured laptops are better for organizations than refurbished laptops:
- Top quality: Remanufactured laptops are usually of higher quality than refurbished laptops because they have undergone a very thorough refurbishment and inspection process. Every part is tested and replaced where necessary, which means that remanufactured laptops can be just as reliable as new laptops.
- Warranty is essential: Remanufactured laptops often come with warranties similar to newer laptops. This way you know that if something goes wrong with your laptop, you can return it for repair or replacement.
- Sustainability: Remanufactured laptops are more durable than refurbished laptops because they have undergone an intensive inspection and repair process that allows for more parts to be replaced (and therefore less disposal). By choosing remanufactured laptops over new or refurbished laptops, you help reduce the amount of e-waste generated.
- Saving money: Although remanufactured laptops may be more expensive than refurbished laptops, they are still cheaper than new laptops. Moreover, remanufactured laptops can end up saving you money because they are more reliable than refurbished laptops and break down less often. This means you are less likely to have to spend money on repairs or replacements.
- Less risk: Because remanufactured laptops have undergone a thorough inspection and repair process, they are less prone to errors and defects than refurbished laptops. This reduces your risk of buying a laptop that doesn't work properly or breaks down quickly.
- Trust: Remanufactured laptops are often refurbished by the original manufacturer, which means they often have the same quality standards as new laptops. Because of this, you can be confident that you are buying a laptop that is reliable and works well.
Choose quality and durability with remanufactured laptops
If you are looking for a smart and sustainable way to save money on laptop purchases for your business or organization, remanufactured laptops are the ideal solution. Not only are they a cheaper alternative to new laptops and even refurbished laptops, but they are also much better for the environment. By choosing remanufactured laptops, your organization shows your commitment to sustainability and demonstrates that you are serious about reducing your carbon footprint.
But that's not all. Choosing remanufactured laptops can also help you comply with increasingly stringent sustainability laws and regulations. This can improve your reputation and set you apart from competitors who place less importance on sustainability. So if you are looking for a smart and responsible choice for your organization, remanufactured laptops are an excellent option.
